This was a Smithsonian Journey and on a previous cruise we met a lovely couple and we became good friends. They had booked this trip and asked if we would consider doing so and enjoy a holiday together. Sadly this trip did not compare in any way with our previous experience while cruising with Ponant. The only special part was meeting our friends.
Our cabin left a lot to be desired, certainly not reflective of what was offered. (more details below).
Considering the total occupancy was about 50%, service in the dining room wasn't good. I wasn't given a coffee spoon at breakfast until the fifth morning. We were disappointed in the standard of food, the only memorable dish was the rack of lamb at dinner one evening.
Our cabin was a health and safety hazard. We had booked a twin bed option - what we were given was a converted sofa. The large base leg of the sofa protruded forward and it was impossible to pass to the patio door without hitting it with your foot. I pointed this out to our steward on the first day. Unfortunately on the third day my husband had a very nasty fall because of the sofa issue and required medical attention, both on the cruise and when we returned home. The image on page 24 of our travel is not reflective of the our room.
