The ship and cabin were just as beautiful as marketed. Everything was clean and wonderfully maintained. The entertainment was very good. The facilities such as the spa and ice grotto are not to be missed. The housekeeping staff couldn’t have been more wonderful and attentive. In fact, all the staff were very friendly and professional.
But…the staff, especially in the main buffet, “World Cafe”, were very “green”. They were very enthusiastic, but very inexperienced with providing service. Time and again, I found that if I sat away from the middle of the room, the staff failed to provide any service. I was stuck with getting my own tableware, coffee, water, napkins, placemats. The staff simply failed to look around and discover who might need service. I did have a chance to chat with the Floor Manager and it seems that this was just a case of a lot of new hires, post COVID. This was apparently true, because by the end of the cruise, service had improved.
The food at the “World Cafe” was usually pretty good. But if you wanted a real restaurant experience, you needed to go to the specialty restaurants: “The Chef’s Table” and “Manfredi’s”. While the dishes were very good in those restaurants, there were still some weak spots. For example, at “The Chef’s Table”, I was served a hot and sour soup that tasted mostly of soy sauce, very salty. The meat for one dish was beautifully tender, but cold on the inside. Kudos to Manifredi’s. The food was spectacular as was the service.
