Traveled with children

We just got back from our June 25th cruise and here are our observations. Hopefully, some of these tips will help some of you planning your cruises. We traveled with 2 adults and one teen. It was very strange when we arrived to check in that there was nobody there. You definitely could tell this cruise was sailing with a low capacity. Highlights were the hardworking staff and the lack of crowds. It was very surreal to see the boat completely empty at 9 pm. The food was acceptable, nothing more. Our son loved the teen club . The entertainment was hit and miss. I could not believe that there wasn’t a show on the first night .The only thing going on in the theater was the film, Moana. The entertainment got better as the week went on. The magician was certainly the highlight. He has his own show on the CW network. You never had to arrive early to the shows, this was certainly a plus.

We did excursions every day. Most excursions were through NCL and some we booked privately.

Sunday - Road to Hana booked through NCL. This excursion should be retitled Road to The Gift shops and Banana Bread stands. So many stops left us with very little time to explore the Black Sand Beach. We literally were given 30-45 minutes to eat lunch and walk the beach and trails. The box lunch given to us before the tour started was not refrigerated all day. This resulted in melted cheese and slimy turkey sandwiches. Road to Hana is worth seeing but I would book privately.
