The Passion play at Oberammegau has been on our bucket list for quit awhile, but life kept getting in the way. 2020 looked like the best time for fulfilling our wish, but covid delayed the performance, and our opportunity. Then we saw that Viking was offering a Rhine river cruise ending in Oberammegau. Having taken a previous Viking cruise we jumped at the opportunity.
From the moment we arrived at the Viking dock to board the Alruna, we were pampered and treated like honored guests. porters insisted on taking all of our luggage aboard, we had walked to the dock from our hotel with our luggage and had no problem bringing it aboard ourselves, but they insisted saying we were guests. Check in went smoothly and we were tested for covid before being offered a sumptuous buffet luncheon. After which we were escorted to our room where our luggage was waiting for us. The room was small, but contained all the amenities we would need to make us comfortable on our voyage.
Daily life aboard the Alruna was wonderful, the meals were delicious with beer and wine included at lunch and dinner. the entertainment led by Lee was great. The included tours were well thought out and the local guides were knowledgeable and informative. Prior to leaving the Alruna for our tours, we were offered bottled water and an umbrella if it looked like it might rain, unlike on other cruise lines, there was no charge for these thoughtful amenities.
Snug, but very comfortable with all amenities needed while on board.
Visited the Anne Frank house and the Van Gough museum. Both were excellent.
