We chose this cruise because the ship was smaller than others and not as many people as other cruise lines. We hadn’t been on a proper cruise and don’t like the thought of those mega ships which look like floating cities. Additionally, we had heard that Viking provides good service, but actually we found the service to be GREAT! They had knowledgeable speakers explaining about the sea life or the next port of call. It was a ship where you had the opportunity, among other things, to be educated, relax at the beautiful spa or have scrumptious finger sandwiches with afternoon tea service. The included excursions in each port of call were decent (we heard mixed reviews on those, but we enjoyed them). The excursions that you could pay extra for didn’t disappoint! It was definitely clear that the different places to eat were managed a bit differently. Manfredi’s is a sit down restaurant and was one of our favorites! Excellent management, service and food. Even the Market Cafe (a buffet set up) had wonderful food. If I had to provide one bit of constructive criticism, it would be that the staff at World Cafe at least acknowledge the guest’s presence (even if they can’t get to them immediately) as there were times we were trying to find our own silverware and where we could something to drink, but we attributed that to a movement of staff to different F&B outlets in anticipation of increased guests at other F&B outlets. Regardless of that, it was still a great experience. We would recommend Viking without hesitation and already have three additional cruises booked with them!
It was kept very clean and tidy by the room steward. They were very observant and made sure that our small refrigerator was stocked with those things we were actually using. Also, I found a book I was reading to have a bookmark inserted in lieu of my dog-eared page. It’s those small things that really add to the great service scores!
