This was the second leg of three river cruises in France. Unfortunately, by the morning after we boarded my wife developed a mild cough, and prudently decided to take a home covid test. It was positive. We notified the crew, and then both tested again - her positive, me negative. They advised that we would both need to quarantine but assured us they would provide full service. The quarantine lasted for the balance of the cruise, with the plan that we would be tested when personnel came on board Saturday afternoon to test travelers returning to the US. We received great attention and service throughout the quarantine. Menus were provided for all meals, and we were able to order anything we wanted. The service was exceptional considering the situation. We were reminded numerous times not to hesitate to ask for whatever we needed. If we wanted a glass of wine and snacks that we might have enjoyed on deck or in the lounge, a simple phone request brought that. The food and drink quality were excellent, if not quite as good as they might have been in the dining room.
On a night when almost all passengers retired early to be prepared for an early tour departure next morning, we were offered the opportunity to go to the top deck for some fresh air. The next day, when virtually every passenger was out on tour, we were allowed off the ship (with mask) to walk some in the nearby town. And when it came time for movement to the next leg, we and another couple in a like situation were still looked after on transfer, though we had to taxi separately to the train station and walked to the boat at the next port. We cannot say enough about how well we were treated, when just as easily Uniworld could have told us we had to go to a hotel instead.
The captain, hotel manager, tour manager, service staff and butler all made it clear that they cared about us. We cannot imagine that we could have had better treatment under the circumstances. And with Uniworld's support we were able to continue on to the final leg of the journey.
The cabin was as good as we could have hoped for in our situation. We found it to be roomier than most ship cabins we have experienced. This French balcony includes a very wide window that can be lowered by a power switch, and includes a screen that can also be put in place with a power switch. For much of the time we were able to enjoy the fresh air and the view offered by this setup, which made the quarantine experience much more pleasant than it might have been.
