We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and wanted to “go big.” We are big supporters of Public Broadcasting and always saw the Viking ads. A brochure arrived in the mail with some significant discounts and we went all in on the 14 day Grand European tour, even springing for the Explorer Suite. Our trip was postponed twice because of Covid but when it finally happened we were delighted each and every day. Our first cruise of any kind. The Silver Spirits upgrade was worthwhile- haven’t consumed that much Veuve Cliquot EVER.
The bartender was amazing, the shore excursions were superb and we truly enjoyed the evening entertainment- especially the trivia nights. Stephen, the tour director, was exceptional - intelligent, funny, and very kind.
Our only complaint was that the buses they used for the excursions did not have bathrooms on them and the average age of the passengers had to be 70. Hey, people of a certain age have certain needs.
We had one of the two Explorer Suites on the stern, with wraparound windows for a 180 degree view as well as a wraparound balcony. We had a separate bedroom, very comfortable beds, a bar area, roomy and swanky bathroom, and a large sitting room in addition to the balcony. Tons of storage.
