We had never been on any kind of cruise before, so one with only 150 or so passengers seemed like a good place to start. We had originally signed onto a cruise with a local group of 55 people, so knowing that many people traveling with us was also a draw. Unfortunately the original cruise was set for April 2020. The pandemic intervened, and Viking made it worth our while to stick with them until the pandemic had mostly passed. We found accommodations to be good (even for those of us who opted for the cheapest stateroom). The food was excellent, with dependable dishes every day plus some local offerings from the area we were in that day. Everyone from the people in charge of the excursions to the dining room servers to the housekeeping staff, all provided top notch service. It’s always nice to walk into the dining room and have a server call you by name and ask if you were having your “usual” beverage. The Covid testing (an unfortunate necessity) was easy and non-invasive. We opted for an extended stay in Basel, and the Viking guide there was also super in her knowledge, her personality, and her accommodation to her guests, even when a snafu occurred. Our only complaint was our own fault – there were so many wonderful excursions that we really overbooked ourselves. We are ready for another cruise with Viking.

Deluxe Stateroom

The room was fine. We had figured we wouldn’t spend much time there, and we were right. Our room had twin beds – we would have preferred one bed, but twins were not a real problem. The bathroom was a fine size, bigger that I really expected. There was plenty of storage. WiFi worked well.
