We initially booked this cruise in 2019 for 2020. Everyone knows what happened next. When we saw things opening up, we moved the cruise to February 2022. But what we didn't know is Viking does segmented cruising...meaning they link several cruises together and passengers can embark or disembark in weekly segments. That said we did the first two week-segments from Barcelona to Venice. The cruise ship was immaculate, the crew eager to please and not a thing was out of order. There were no hiccups along the way and overall this was the best cruise we have ever taken...our maiden voyage with Viking Ocean Cruises, but not our last!

Our first week was heaven, once past the COVID protocols. There were slightly over 400 passengers onboard so no waiting anywhere for anything! Staff was overwhelming efficient, friendly and fun! We particularly enjoyed the girls in the dining room remembering details about us, our tastes and preferences. It was quite enjoyable to visit with them and learn of their countries as they weren't super busy with a full dining room. They went out of their way to satisfy our every wish, as did our cabin steward.

Excursions were so easy with small groups but were somewhat contained. If the length exceeded 4 hours, we all dined together at a restaurant chosen by the company. It was a bit disappointing to not venture into local cafes or stroll through the shops, but we understood the circumstances and just enjoyed being on vacation again.
