The Douro River is famous port and wine country. Unfortunately Viking has a very poor provider of Portuguese wine to complement the fabulous food they serve. This is a wine country cruise and we expected to be treated with excellent Portuguese wine. We were a party of eight who all had the silver wine package--the included wines in the package were either undrinkable or mediocre. We opened and returned most bottles. If you wanted a higher end wine on the wine list you had to pay the full price rather than getting a discount like cruise lines like Windstar give (50% off with liquor package). Viking needs to find a new local wine vendor for its Douro Valley cruises. It also needs to discount higher priced wines at 50% for people with the silver beverage package.

Like all Viking cruises the crew and the food is beyond reproach.

Cruising the river was beautiful. Lots of good outdoors space for enjoying the cruising.

Cabin Review

French Balcony

We were in the cheapest cabin. The cabin is small like most river cruises but was well designed. No advantage to get any room other than the cheapest.
