First, over 50 cruises under our belt. First on Virgin. We're both in our upper 60's but young at heart. Virgin is very different from our normal cruises. No photographers, no announcements, no kids, no cruise director. no dress codes, wear what you want. Even the captain wore the gray virgin outfit that the staff was wearing. There is no MDR. or buffet. No set dining times. There are I believe it was 6 specialty restaurants that you can make reservations for but are free to eat in. The food in all of them was better then any specialty dining that I'e paid for on any other cruiseline including RC and Celebrity. Note to the technically challenged, you won't make on Virgin with a flip phone. Basic WiFi is free and you'll need your phone to do everything on board. If you can't do that, Don't book Virgin. Also instead of a normal buffet you sit down and scan the QR code menu the staff comes to you and you can order everything from all these specialty venues, Salads, Sushi, Ramen, Burgers, Vegan, deserts, coffees. The food in the buffet was better quality then any other ship we've been on. The staff refuses to accept tips, Apparently they're all well paid, love their jobs and even get their own cabins. There is music everywhere onboard, The casino slots are loose. The ship has "folk" type entertainers around different venues. Cabin - we had a balcony cabin, when you walk in the lights go on and the curtains opened. But the furnishings are sparse, only one chair to sit in if you don't convert the bed to a sofa which we didn't The room feels like a college dorm furnished by Ikea. I'm not going to tell you about the adult entertainment and shows but you have to go and you'll be surprised. The ship is designed for a certain demographic and it wasn't us. The medium age on our cruise was 35. The furnishings ship wide were not designed for seniors, you couldn't get out of most of the seating which was close to the floor, reclined and short backs. The main pool has no way in without olding on to a railing and climbing over a high surround and many seniors required help from the younger people to help get in and out of the pool which was embarrassing. One major design flaw of this ship is everything outside is metal, black handrails, metal seating, metal exercise equipment that if touched in the Caribbean sun will give you second degree burns. Overall, the pluses food, service, Bimini beach club, outweigh the negatives so we're going back to sail with Virgin even if we might be the oldest passengers onboard it made us feel young again....
