Sail Date: May 2022

To follow the trip of our good friends, we took a pre-trip beginning May 24 through the Swiss Alps before embarking on the Herja from Zurich to Paris on May 30. We were tested for Covid every day, and even though 60 people during this time frame were not allowed on the cruise ship or had to be dismissed during the cruise, we were lucky the 5 in our party never got sick. There were many questions about Vikings' policy of dismissing passengers during our river cruise, but the director was unable to answer our questions, citing rules and regulations of Viking and CDC.

Having dodged the Covid bullet, the 5 of us enjoyed the cruise tremendously. Viking tour guides, excursions in the many cities we stopped at on the Rhine and Moselle River either fully met or exceeded our expectations. We had no complaints about anything--we enjoyed the food, really liked the entertainment in the evenings, and with the drink package enjoyed any drink we wanted. The paid excursions were well worth it!

A special memory for us was the accordion player in Winnigen where everyone in the pub was clapping, foot stomping and singing, and they give us a wine glass to take home. Also we loved the bike tour in Cochem, where I rode an e-bike for the first time.
