TL;DR: the staff is amazing; food is decent not great; rooms are small; and internet is slower than dialup.

This is my unbiased review. I’m currently on the ship now and will be on the ship next week as well for the June 19th sailing.

First, the internet is terrible. It’s basically unusable. You can’t even load a webpage. I asked guest services about it and they said it was because we are in Alaska. I spoke to one of the waiters onboard and they said they received a letter letting them know that the internet will be extremely slow because so many people onboard have the Princess Plus package and that they will get faster speeds after midnight each night when less people are trying to access the internet. I believe the waiter. You will basically only be able to use it to access the princess app and send iMessages (or WhatsApp) back and forth. If you need internet for work or business…you are going to be in serious trouble. I’ll attach a photo of the current internet speed on open water.

Cabin Review

Balcony (obstructed view)

We are in a premium deluxe obstructed balcony room. This room is on deck 8 forward. The only obstruction is that there is no glass balcony wall. It’s solid. The trade off is a very large balcony which is very very nice. Plenty of room to have breakfast and entertain friends and family. We have friends with a regular balcony cabin and the balcony has enough room to sit upright in a chair. No room to stick your feet out and relax. No room to recline your chair. Also, no couch in a regular balcony room. I was surprised it was so small, to be honest. The premium deluxe balcony room is the size of a normal balcony room from our previous cruises. The bathroom is also very tight and it comes with the dreaded shower curtain. I have no issue with the shower curtain but it is a tight fit.

Port Reviews

Beautiful cruising through but did not see a glacier.

Juneau

We did a private whale watching tour. Totally worth it if you have six people and split the cost. Saw more whales than I have ever seen in my life. Amazing excursion.

Skagway

We did the obligatory train ride. It did not disappoint. The views were amazing. Worth every penny.

Ketchikan

We did the lumberjack show. It was far more entertaining than I would have thought. Was actually glad that I did it. I really enjoyed it as did everyone else in our group.

Victoria

Not much to do in the city with the short amount of time so we are going to stay on the ship.
