We signed up for this cruise in early 2020 but it was postponed due to Covid. We were finally able to schedule it for May 24, 2022. First, we spent 5 days in Holland and then we got on board the ship Viking VE on May 24. We have been to Holland and Germany on numerous occasions (never with Viking) , so we were looking forward to the second part of the trip, which would take us to Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. After about 5 days we arrived in Nuremberg and that's when my wife Kathy tested positive for Covid! That was the end of the trip for us and we never got to see the countries we really wanted to visit! What a disappointment and money down the drain, as we did not purchase insurance (we always purchased insurance in the past, but not this time...).
But...Viking rose to the occasion. We were transported from Nuremberg to Frankfurt (a 3 hour car ride) and we were put up in the Hilton City Centre, a very nice facility, but definitely not the cheapest. Viking paid for the car ride as well as the hotel (we ended up being quarantined in our room for 8 days). Viking also paid for all of the room service meals (example: 56 euros for a couple of sandwiches and a soft drink) Then Viking arranged our ride to the airport and re-arranged our flight schedule, as we obviously could not make our scheduled flights from Budapest. Viking assigned a contact person, Nouman Asif, who kept us advised of every step in the process. He arranged for testing on a daily basis, arranged for some special medication and told us not to worry about a thing!
While we obviously regretted not being able to finish the cruise, we believe that Viking rose to the occasions and truly did a First Class job taking care of us!
Small but very nicely done.
Visit family, spend time with friends, see places we had not seen before.
