We were booked for three, back to back cruises. Cruise #1 departed N.Y.C. with less than 1000 guests aboard. Initially, the lack of crowding made for pleasant sailing. It soon became evident that there was a problem aboard. The staff were masked 100% of the time, and seemed a little "distant" in their interactions with guests. We docked in Halifax, no problems. We enjoyed 4 sea days and an overnight in Reykjav where the weather was terrible. Another sea day and we were in Belfast, Northern Ireland where we did a ship's bus tour of the city. SO FAR SO GOOD. Late on day #10, we were informed that "every passenger was to be tested for covid before we could dock in Dublin". Our test took place at 1:30 a.m. !!! Early in the morning we were informed by the captain that the ship would not be docking, because the rough conditions would make tendering dangerous!". As if we could not see for ourselves that no such conditions existed....and we sailed on by Dublin, Ireland...and Amsterdam...and Zeebrugge...and Brussels...and Paris...and docked in the end port of Southampton. "WHY", you might ask !
Because...my wife and I, along with scores of other passenger had received letters under their door informing them that they had tested positive for covid 19 and would be "disembarked" in Southampton AND that WE specifically would not be allowed to continue on the second of our three back-to-back cruises ! Additionally, while standing, in a taxi waiting area on the dock, wondering what we were going to do next, we received an email congratulating us on receiving an "upgrade" to a suite...And our account was immediately charged $400...for the cruise "we would not be allowed to join! We did manage to find accommodations where we could "isolate". Seven days into our isolation we received "good news" "we had been upgraded again for our third cruise...at a cost of $400 which had already been charged to our account and was non-cancellable. The flight home, when we tested negative....was $5,000
THANKS, NCL we are alive, healthy and home. OH, I forgot...YOU DON'T CARE !!!
Cabins are great....unless you have to quarantine in one...then they are claustrophobic.
