Incredibly basic underwhelming experience, lacking any real 'cruise' feel.

I generally don't review any of the cruises I travel on, unless things fall short of expectations.

This Virgin voyage was at best ‘Nice’ (lacking any real sense of cohesion). Most of the good feelings were generated by the excellent customer facing staff, fellow guests and the incredibly good weather.

Virgin Voyages are offering an incredibly basic experience, which feels a little too wrapped up in ‘smoke and mirror’ marketing. There is no single thing that grossly offends but the accumulative effect is incredibly jarring.

Cabin Review

I had a good look around a standard room, which were comfortable but basic with an incredibly small bathroom. I was told in all sincerity, by a ‘Virgin Cruise fan’, that this was “to discourage fat people” - Urban myth in the making…

The Rockstar quarters were larger, I had a ‘Seriously Suite’ very comfortable and with a huge bathroom, the extra space on the balcony made using the hammock easy, & I really enjoyed using it. Friends in the larger Rockstar Corner suites, had a huge balcony, two sun beds (and little else), but no sun, as a direct result of the huge overhang from the deck above. For some reason the back of the ship flares out as you go up, reducing the sun for those in some of the most expensive rooms below.

Staterooms are more functional and generally void of any touch of class or real style, until you get to Rockstar Level, and even then, it’s minimal. Paying a small fortune, to listen to vinal of someone else’s choosing does not make a positive ‘experience’. (My neighbours hated the Sex Pistols so much they moved room.) There is no vinal lending library, just an overpriced record shop.

Huge Cabin TVs suffer with appalling live TV reception - because of the size of the TV every blocky pixel is evident, mostly live TV is unwatchable. But, surprisingly good sound and pictures on Movies. (This is the first cruise I have ever had to watch a movie in a cabin for something to do).

Showers were fabulous.
