Sail away party at the helipad, Tortola BVI

For nearly the past 3 years we have been trying to schedule a cruise for my husband and me, two teenagers, and my husband's elderly parents. This trip kept getting delayed because of pandemic-related issues, but our cruise on the Equinox was well-worth the wait. We booked Sky Suites in the Retreat and were so thankful we did. My husband and I are in our early 50s, well-traveled foodies, have cruised mostly on Disney and Royal Caribbean, though our very first cruise was on the Constellation, so we were already fans of Celebrity.

Each of us had loaded the Celebrity app onto our phones, and we had completed our check-in before we arrived along with uploading our vaccine cards. The grandparents needed help with this, but it helped that each of them had their own phone app. A negative covid test was required 2 days before embarkation, so we opted to order the proctored antigen tests from the Celebrity store and we did them on Thursday afternoon for our Saturday sailing. We thought this would be less stressful than waiting for a PCR result from CVS. They emailed us our results instantly, and I printed a copy to present at the port.

We flew to FLL the morning prior to the cruise and stayed at the Hilton Ft. Lauderdale Marina. Our rooms were ready early, and the hotel was nice. We had arranged transportation with South Florida Elite Shuttle. They did a good job, had nice clean vehicles, competitive prices, and good communication. (They transported us from airport to hotel, hotel to port, and port to airport.) We were thankful that we arrived early in the day, as there were many weather (and non-weather) related air travel delays and cancellations later on that meant some of our fellow cruise passengers didn't make it onboard before we sailed.

Cabin Review

Sky Suite 2

There was a bottle of sparkling wine and some fruit waiting for us when we boarded, and we got afternoon canapés delivered daily. Large balcony, plush robes, high end toiletries. There was a ton of storage space in the bathroom including dual mirror cabinets and drawers. The only thing we lacked in the bathroom was a line to hang our wet suits. The bed was heavenly, and they were able to make twin beds in one of our rooms for the children. The drapes were room darkening so we slept well. Caution: The fridge was a stocked mini bar but none of the offerings are complimentary, even for Retreat guests. They provided 2 bottles of water daily. There was never any noise from anything above us. We had a large table and chairs suitable for eating a meal, and there was also a lounge chair with an ottoman. We had them open the barrier to connect our 2 balconies, so we were able to spend time with the 6 of us sitting out there together.
