Our second river cruise with Emerald and a third is booked. Very happy with all aspects of this immaculate ship and itinerary on the Rhone & Saone - the staff are the best with all our needs met. Our captain was very visible and available to chat and it was obvious he was a favourite with the staff too. If I was being picky I'd say that the evening meals could have been a little more imaginative. River cruising is for those who wish to have a more intimate experience than ocean cruising (of which which we've experienced many) and get straight into the towns and villages which ocean cruises could never visit. Every morning there's a walking tour by local guides which is at a manageable pace for most people - this is included in your cruise cost. There are further optional tours at a supplement. Every stop on this cruise is interesting and a surprise highlight was the pretty town of Charlon du Saone and the amazing market which is a tour in itself and a true picture of French life. Starting with the small main square (buildings dating back hundreds of years) the market meanders through the town for a few hundred yards - every food you can imagine, a visual feast. I thoroughly recommend Emerald cruises.
