Alaska was a bucket list with the scenery and to hopefully see whales. Due to receiving 2 text and an email warning not to arrive early we arrived at 11:15 for an 11:30 boarding. The embarkation was chaotic and definitely not as smooth as it is in Miami. It seemed there was one line but no communication where it began or ended or where to drop luggage. I had the donning package so we ate in the specialty restaurants the entire cruise. They did seem to struggle with long service times, up to 80 minutes for lunch, on Sea Days. I think that is due to the lack of staff and common kitchen design on the Ovation. The trip got off to a rocky start when a crew member became sick and required helicopter life flight evacuation and a change in course. They made the right call to treat the crew member. However, this effectively cancelled our Juneau port stop and could have done more besides only cancelling our excursions. We ported in Juneau at 6:45 pm but after tie up and clearances able to leave the ship at 8:10 pm and due back by 9:30 pm. I applaud the crew as they were severely understaffed. The cabin Stewards seemed always to be working at least 12-14 hours a day. I would recognize a crew member in the Windjammer for Breakfast and see them throughout the day in other roles. I would say this is the first time I have actually felt the boat moving. At one point “barf” bags were put on the stairs for customers on day 5. Overall it was decent but May skip Quantum Class for the future.

Cabin Review

Junior Suite

Cabin was great. Great view, it was always clean and everything worked. Glad there were a total of 3 outlets and 2 usb charge ports.

Port Reviews

Skagway

Skagway turned out to be the best stop. The excursions “To the Summit” and “”Eagle Adventure - Raft” were well worth it.
