My 19 yo son and I have started a new tradition of doing a short cruise together each summer. Last year we did the RCL Freedom of the seas at 30 percent capacity. This was a Full ship. We have cruised Carnival before and I had a great casino offer. Overall a fun long weekend. There were some areas that needed improvement. The embarkation system is complicated but ran smoothly. They have 9:30 appointment times but did not open the parking lot and such until closer to 10? I would still get an early boarding zone in the future but wait to arrive. We waited about :30 minutes in the waiting area after we finished checking in before they began calling zones to board the shuttles/buses to the ship. Once at the ship, you wait again to go through security and then straight on the ship. We were at Guys by 11:30. We hung out at serenity all afternoon and the weather was great. We skipped the dining room that night and hit the casino when it opened. My son had all the luck it there! We were awakened at 3am with rock music on the intercom in the hallway. It lasted until 3:20-3:30. Guest services were not answering. The next day we did seaday brunch. I had the eggs benedict (good) my sons scrambled eggs were runny. Service was slow but they were really busy. We got guys again for lunch( I am addicted!) We did bingo(lost) and gambled a little. It was formal night and dinner was okay. The dining room was busy and seemed chaotic. The your time dining worked well on the app. We were seated quickly. We were awoken again at exactly 3am with Frank Sinatra on the intercom in the hallway. It only lasted 1-2 songs this time. Guest services still did not answer. We only had one port, Half Moon. We booked the walking tour at 9:15 and got the 1st shuttle at 7:45. I heard the lines were long for those without priority or an excursion. We had a clamshell but barely used it. It was not that hot and we were in the water. We went back at 1pm and had another Guys burger instead of the buffet on the island. Also no wait for the tender back. We napped and ate in the buffet for dinner. We went to deal or no deal and gambled again. Made it an early night. On our last seaday, we really just gambled and such. The casino comped us the Steak house that night and it was excellent. My son ended up winning a lot whereas I lost a lot! I let my son sleep in until 8 the morning we docked. We had zone 20 for our luggage but left the ship at 8:30 when they cleared the cabins. Our bags were already there. We walked back to the lot instead of waiting on the shuttles. We were home in NC by 1:30 with a few stops. Pros for us were our room steward, casino staff, Guys and the Steakhouse. Cons were the overall tight layout of the ship(felt crowded), the chaotic dining room and the noise in our cabin on the intercom. I would sail Sunshine again but only for a weekend.

Cabin Review

It was a noisy cabin. I went to bed at 11 one night and could hear the deck party.
