As our first cruise experience, we liked the idea of an Expedition Cruise on a small ship with lots of activities and special interests ie nature & photography. Norway has been on our wish list for some time and the trip was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic so we were especially excited when we learnt it was now going ahead. It did not disappoint! We boarded the ship in Dover which was a bit of a drive but preferable to flying. From the moment we boarded MS Maud we felt very welcome as everyone we came into contact with were friendly and helpful and committed to making our holiday as enjoyable as possible. Our cabin on deck 4 was comfortable and cosy although we spent little time there as there was so much to do. A lift took us up to the top deck for a stroll around or hot/cold drinks and chat. The quality of the onboard lectures in the lecture hall were not only very interesting but of excellent quality delivered by well qualified expedition staff that enhanced our stay. Topics included on nature, history, geology, photography relevant to our trip. Late night talks and stories were also entertaining and finished off the day nicely. Expeditions to shore - some included and others at extra cost were good value - particularly enjoyed Flam train ride; visit to a Stave Church; visit to a glacier; a walk around Rosendal and museum visit. Also enjoyed trips out on the zodiac RIBs to look at the wildlife. Always felt safe in and around the ship, and although face masks could be annoying, the measures taken kept us all virus free. We especially enjoyed the quality of food and drink - varied with choice of meat/fish/veg dishes with some local Norwegian specialties. Breakfast - buffet with a very varied choice between hot/cold, breads & pastries. Enjoyed daily omelette of my choice. Choice of 3 restaurants although one was at an extra cost. I would recommend this trip and the MS Maud if you want to experience something a bit different and have a sense of adventure!

Cabin Review

comfortable and cosy and larger than was expecting. Good amount of storage, with hanging, drawer space and shelves around the beds. Two single beds were comfortable & sanitised before use. Walk in shower had heated floor for extra comfort. Only annoyance was the tv used for information and streaming talks and lectures. Could not get this to work consistently so gave up. Think it may be an internet thing?
