Our Lower Mississippi River cruise proved to be very disappointing. ACL promised a lot. Unfortunately execution didn't match the promise.
Parts of three travel days were cut short when American Cruise lines announced that the ship was going to leave ports early. The day in Natchez was supposed to continue until 9:30 PM. The ATV excursion trip was cut short when ACL announced that we needed to be back on board no later then 5PM. The $195 per person program was reduced by an hour. The stay in St Francisville was cut due to mechanical problems. We had planned to take a hop on-/hop off visit of a very charming city. Likewise our stay in Baton Rouge was reduced by half a day. All afternoon activities were cancelled. We had planned to take the company arranged tour of New Orleans on the final morning. It was billed as a 3 hour bus tour of the city ending back to the Intercoastal Hotel. Actually it was somewhat abridged because the trip left an hour late due to poor organization. What was promised as a tour of New Orleans ended up as an hour and a half bus ride leading to New Orleans airport and then finally back to the hotel.
The brochure promised that each tour would have a lecturer to provide historical information. There was a lecturer however because of the man's strong Cajon accent, neither of us could understand what he was saying.
The cabin was clean. We did notice that there was a crack in the floor in the shower and it must have been leaking. I had kept my empty suitcases in the closet which was on the other side of a wall near the bathroom. While packing at the end of the trip, I noticed that there was water in the suitcase. I have told the crew member but wonder why this wasn't caught during previous cruises.
