We chose this river cruise because this was the last leg of our France river cruises. Pre-Covid we had done the Paris to Normandy and the Bordeaux river cruises on Uniworld and loved it. We chose Emerald based on reviews and frankly, price. Emerald had the normal, to be expected, startup issues with staffing. We understand that. The cabin was small but nice although we don't care for the virtual balcony concept. Food was quite good - no complaints there. What was strange was the almost avoidance of discussions of Covid issues. Our cruise director, about 3 days into the cruise was announced as being sick and confined to her cabin. No explanation of what was wrong with her. A new cruise director joined the ship and he was okay. A couple days later we were told the sick CD was feeling better, NEVER was covid mentioned. NEVER were Covid tests required or offered although a few of the passengers appeared ill. I should add the ship never made it back to Lyon as per plan. For whatever reason, it was never communicated to us, the ship needed a repair and we were bused or vaned back to Lyon. Well, the day before our return trip to the USA we had the required Covid test and I FAILED. Not Emerald fault but if testing was happening on the ship I at least would have had advance notice. I guess if a ship doesn't test for Covid they can say they didn't have a case of Covid on the ship.
