This is part 2 of a back-to-back cruise beginning last week on the California Coastal. This second part we went to San Diego first and it was a very nice day there. We have family so were able to visit with them before returning to ship to hang out. After that was a cold and rougher day at sea before arriving in San Francisco. San Francisco's itinerary was shortened from when we booked the cruise so that was a bit disappointing. We got there later and left earlier than the original plan. Astoria, OR was next and it was a cold and rainy day. While my husband went out and did a 10 mile run in the rain, I stayed in my room overlooking the view of the cute little port area.
Victoria, BC was amazing. We rented a car and hit the botanical gardens in the morning then spent the rest of the day exploring around the peninsula of the island. Amazing views, lots of beautiful homes on the water front, plenty of picturesque areas to stop and take photos.
Usually we like to start and stop at the same port for easy travel but this time we decided to try a point to point which meant having to fly back from Vancouver. The process of having to find and take the covid test was not easy and it ended up quite different than what I was told by Princess when I called them prior to leaving on the cruise. It was also different than what I was told on ship. In the end, we got it done but it took hours of effort and almost undid all the benefit of having cruised in the first place.
We had a different cabin three rooms down from our first one. Mirror image, same quality, same steward, we were satisfied. The only bummer about the balcony is when you are in port and want to open the door for fresh air, there are other passengers who decide to smoke on their balconies even though it's prohibited. I had it happen every port and had to keep my door closed. Unfortunately I could never identify the offenders so nothing could be done about it.
Not a ton to do here in port but it is a cute little place and if the weather is nice, worth going for a walk. If you are into doing the excursions there's places to visit.
Renting a car was easy and gave us the freedom to explore this lovely place. We drove first out to Butchart Gardens and spent a couple hours there. It was so worth it. Amazing beauty every where you look. Then we drove out and did the circumference of that whole peninsula passing the airport, down along the coast, seeing all the little islands off the coast, passing the lake, it was just so pretty. A full day.
