We all understand during Covid and the resuming of cruising again that you have to be flexible with the itinerary changes. We all sign and agree in the fine print under terms and conditions that the cruise lines has the right to change itinerary at will. I have status with both NCL and Royal Caribbean and have been on dozens of cruises. On my most recent cruise in March 2022 on the Gem, two weeks before the cruise NCL changes the 2 best ports for less than optimal ports, fine, okay, it's COVID, it's the new norm. Then while standing in the check-in line from hell because they don't have enough desk agents, which is a pretty good indicator that they don't treat their staff well because if they are a good company to work for, people will work, NCL hands out a paper that they are dropping 1 of the 5 ports completely and adding another day at sea. It's March in the northeast, no one wants 3 days at sea in the cold damp temperatures heading back to NY. Again, fine, whatever, they can make as many changes as they want. But on previous cruises if a port was cancelled completely, they would refund the taxes/port charges to your on board account as a credit. Not this time, NCL kept in excess of $50K that the 1100 passengers paid towards taxes/port charges for a port that we never went to (Tortola). The put in Puerto Rico from 4pm-12:00am in place of Dominican Republic, with no excursions at that hour and unsafe conditions late at night in PR, what good was that port? They dropped Turks and Cacaos and put in Antigua, not equivalent in my opinion. Then dropped Tortola completely because the ship had mechanical issues and they wanted more time to get back to NY at a slower speed, again saving in fuel and keeping our taxes/port charges. Food was so so and Entertainment was lacking. A whole other day at sea and the only thing to do was the Casino, what a surprise, another was for NCL to make money. What was supposed to be 10 days of nice warm Caribbean cruise was terrible.

I tried to support the cruise industry as they relaunch and took both RC and NCL cruises during the pandemic. This was my last NCL cruise. Royal Caribbean has much better food, entertainment and guest relations policies. Carpe Diem, buyer beware. Know that if you book with NCL, they will change the itinerary and keep you money besides nickle/time you for each little thing onboard.
