Traveled with children

Decided to take our grown children on there first cruise. Ages 30 and 25. My husband and I have sailed several times on the Explorer. We had given the kids a heads up they would be the youngest adults traveling. This experience was going to be about family time, and giving them a taste of Italy, Spain,France and Croatia. We are all vaccinated but still had to test prior to boarding. In Barcelona the local doctor came right to our hotel room and within minutes we had the results on paper and ready to board. The boarding process was extremely organized and easy. once a board a feast of lunch and cocktails awaited. Our concierge suites were ready with in an hour. We got settled in with more than enough cabinets, bathroom drawers etc. Instead of plastic water bottles each guest is given a metal water bottle to refill in room or water stations around the deck. Great idea in helping with plastic waste. We took them on excursions and they clipped nicely to our back packs. Champagne, fresh fruit and large glass water bottles for drinking or refilling your container were constantly being replaced in our room. Dinner at Prime 7 has never disappointed and this was our first night choice. Service and menu options were perfect. The wine glass is never left under filled. The tables are set for perfection, even reminding me how many forks and spoons are set at a formal table. It was so exquisite. After dinner we wondered around bouncing between lounges and listening to different music genre and meeting the wonderful bar tenders who had a plethora of original cocktails they were eager to share with you. Tucked into bed and ready for our first stop. Weather kept us out of Capri and even the backup plan of Naples. We ended up having 2 full days at sea. Splendor scrambled and added some fun goofy options to pass the time. We ended up hanging in the jacuzzi and on deck. My complaint about the deck music is its boring and rag time jazz. My husband and I are in our 60s but would have enjoyed 60’s or 70s soft rock to listen too while enjoying cocktails. Although cruise guest are older on Regent, if you get the crowd of young at heart, and age is just number its really fun. Most are retired and have some amazing stories to share and ready to make the best of the second half of life. Excursions were on time and Regent never over fills there beautiful coaches. The pool bar was always happening with Murphy the bar tender. My daughter loved that he remembered her every time she walked up. The details with there crew are over and above with attention. Yes, there were signs posted outside restaurants to wear a mask until seated and we obliged. No one made it there job to constantly inform guest to wear mask. Signs were posted entering casino, restaurants and spa but mask came off and not put back on until needed. Of course carrying around a cocktail constantly kept mine off. We dined at Prime 7 a couple times, Pacific Rim a couple times and Compass Rose once. Compass Rose was a disappointment. Food was cold and they were scrambling it seemed to fill servers. Now this was the surprise day at sea so maybe they were not ready for all the guest to be back on ship. My daughter and I took 2 of the cooking classes with chef Kelli. That was so awesome and informative. The pool buffett, which I love is small portions that are constantly refreshed, or you can order from menu. We ended in Trieste instead of Venice so had to shuttle 2 hours to Venice with our flight not tell the next day. Splendor had covid testing all set up for us in the morning so we would have no issues flying back to the states. Our children appreciated the level of treatment and exposure to Europe. We had a wonderful time and Iam already loooking at future destinations. Yes its expensive, but worth every cent to create memories with family.
