As you read this "review", consider that this was not only our first HAL experience but also our first cruise as well. Sorry this is so long but there is info that may be helpful to other first-times.

Sunset did not happen until after 10pm and sunrise about 4:30am, which made for some interesting activity timing.

For our first cruise we chose the Zuiderdam, June 5, 2010, to June 12, 2010, from Vancouver. As we were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary, we chose to splurge on a suite (the SC Deluxe Verandah (#6177 starboard aft) for its wrap-around deck). We knew we would spend hours in that cabin and on that balcony watching the scenery pass by.

Cabin Review

Neptune Deluxe Verandah Suite

Cabin SB

We loved our cabin. SC-6177 on Zuiderdam, Yes, it was small for a Deluxe Verandah Suite (Someone on CC posted that it is 311 square feet.) but the wrap-around balcony was why we chose it. The cabin was easily big enough for two and exactly what we wanted for our Alaskan Adventure. The location was quiet and at the end of the hall so few people walked past. We did hear the engines a little but in no way was it distracting. I would book the same cabin again in a heartbeat.
