We have been on maybe a dozen cruises, including Royal Caribbean, Princess, Cunard (QE2), Holland America, and mostly Seabourn (5 times). We have taken a Viking river cruise which we didn't particularly care for, but this was our first Viking ocean cruise. We got a great deal, including RT airfare, and decided to try what everyone seems to be raving about.
The Orion is the most beautiful and tastefully furnished of any ship we have been on. They call it a small ship, but I would say it was "medium-sized." The crew was fantastic, friendly and courteous, smiling; a host of sweet-natured people.
even their uniforms were stylish and attractive. That's important to us oldsters, and probably everyone. I think the average age on this cruise was older than any we have been on (and we aren't spring chickens). There were no children. It appeals to people who don't want casinos, obnoxious music, "art" sales or other tacky interruptions.
Very nice cabin. A bit noisy at night as the World Café was above us and they, of course, cleaned at night. If you are a light sleeper and want a 6th floor PH, I would recommend a midships or forward location. The bathroom is small, but adequate.
