We decided to meet with some old friends for a cruise, and we had had a great experience with Avalon on a cruise years ago. Like clockwork, we met aboard the Visionary, a river cruise ship with great style and accommodations. Immediately, we were catered to with a staff of unfailingly courteous and cheerful people. There were hot towels waiting for us at the end of each day's excursion, along with drinks and snacks. The wonderful coffee machine in the lounge served up any type of coffee or cocoa you might desire.
The boat was simply splendid. The lounge was luxurious, the skydeck was thrilling and we had done a lot of research as to the rooms. Avalon gives you extra space, and the beds face out toward the windows. The bed was perfect - not too firm or soft. There was plenty of room in the bathroom. And throughout the room, loads of closet space and drawers that easily handled the contents of our huge luggage, which was stored easily under the bed.
The food and dining experience was beyond our expectations. Avalon served dishes from the regions we were passing through, even down to the wines. The meals tasted fantastic. Dinner was a four-course affair, with multiple selections for each course. Lunch was buffet style, with dazzling choices. Even down to the cheese and meat selection, the local and regional fare prevailed.
