We live in the San Francisco Bay Area, so we enjoy cruises that leave and return to San Francisco -- no airports involved. We've cruised on Princess 5 or 6 times now, and they have been very good. We noticed this time that staffing seemed to be a problem -- very, very long waits at dinner. On the first 2 nights, there were long lines to get into the dining rooms (da Vinci and Botticelli) and it was chaotic. When we were finally seated, each course took an extraordinarily long time to arrive -- we ended up spending upwards of 2 hours at dinner, and there were activities we missed because of this. Some of the food was sub-par -- the green beans for instance were canned and overcooked. Same with the asparagus.
We did appreciate being able to play Pickleball though, but it was hard to figure out where it was and when we could play, as no one we asked at the service desk had heard of it or knew there was a Pickleball net and paddles onboard. We were unsuccessful at trying to figure out how we could find others to play with. We did eventually find other players, but it was at the end of the cruise. As Pickleball is getting to be very popular, we knew there must be other players on the ship, but no way to find them (I did post a note on our door, but to no avail).
We had a balcony, and our cabin was fine. Our steward, Agus, was excellent! We are pretty low impact and don't make many requests, but the ones we did he was happy to help and consistently cleaned the room. We chose to only have our room made up once a day, as twice seems excessive, and we had never been offered the choice before.
