Looking for a smaller, more upscale cruise line to replace my favorite that is now in liquidation, I chose Azamara. I was not disappointed. It is a lovely, small ship that has been nicely updated and very well maintained. I was surprised by the truly exceptional service I received. Everyone from bartenders, to waiters, to entertainment crew, to guest services, the concierge, and my stateroom attendant were just fantastic.
I enjoyed the entertainment and on-board activities. Food was great both in the main dining room and in the premium restaurant I tried. (Acqualina.) Both the white night party and the Azamazing evening onboard were really exceptional.
The only two issues I had were the cancellation of every one of my shore excursions and my stateroom upgrade. Both require some explanation.
I had a premium balcony on deck 9, just adjacent to the forward elevators. In addition to a roomy bed, it had a desk with chair, coffee table, loveseat and a balcony with two chairs and a table. It was probably the smallest shower I have ever encountered on a cruise ship. Otherwise, perfectly adequate with plenty of storage. I would not pay extra for the premium balcony again since it appeared to be no bigger than a standard balcony and the added extras were really not worth what I paid for them.
One of the most beautiful ports I have been to. The ship docked right in town and the walled city was really lovely and very good to visit.
