In 2015 we sailed with Scenic down the Danube from Budapest to Nurenberg and it was 5 star. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about this cruise. The difficulties began even prior to leaving home. Their website was basically out of commission for months, and phone contact was nearly impossible. When you were able to get through on the phone after waiting for hours, it was clear that Scenic was having significant staff issues on top of the rest. We battled with staff to get our travel documents, and what should have been happy anticipation of our trip was fraught with anxiety to the point that we were thinking about canceling our plane and pre-trip hotel reservations we made because we were not sure that we would get our docs in time. That said, we did leave as planned and met the ship at a dock outside of central Amsterdam. It was only the second post-COVID cruise for the staff, and you could tell that they were not yet a cohesive team. Speaking of COVID, the staff were required to wear masks, but in the dining room especially, the were often not worn correctly. In spite of all that, we were enjoying ourselves - the food was good and the tours were good, but on the 5th day, our ship was taken out of commission, and all passengers disembarked. It turned out that there were engine problems, and the Jade would have to be towed to the shipyard for repair. Really? Doesn't Scenic have mechanisms in place to ensure ship reliability, especially after 2 years in dry dock? The cruise director and assistant director did their best to keep things running as smoothly as possible, but it was a disappointment to all. I would not recommend a Scenic cruise to anyone at this time. They are charging a premium price for service that is less than. For those already booked, I hope your trip will be better than mine.
