We had a Danube river cruise scheduled with Viking in May 2020, when it got canceled, they offered to sign us up for a 2021 cruise, keep our money and increase the price. We bailed on that plan and got our money back. After some research, we decided on Ama Waterways. This was our first river cruise, we have been on 15 ocean cruises, starting back in 1983 so really didn't know what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised.

Embarkation - we had a rough time finding the ship, in the end, it was completely our fault, they had provided information on the location. We got out of Amsterdam Centraal Station, saw a bunch of river cruise ships and headed off in the cold and rain only to find AmaSiena wasn't among them, saw other ships in completely the opposite direction beyond the station, got colder and wetter only to find they were Viking ships. On the way back to the station, I remembered that there was a map in the documentation showing the docking location. It wasn't visible from the station being around a corner but once we had the info, a warm and dry taxi took us there. Once we got to the ship, it was easy, showed passports and vaccination cards and we were stewarded to our room to begin our adventure.

Ship - AmaSiena is a beautiful ship, so much more intimate than the ocean ships we have been on. We got a room with the split balcony, one side a French balcony and the other an outside balcony with two chairs and a table. Our weather wasn't the greatest so we weren't able to use the balcony as much as we would have liked but it was still nice to have. We will shoot for the same room type next time. The room was a decent size, the bathroom was beautiful, never thought I'd see a self-closing toilet lid on a cruise. Shower was great, good pressure, plenty of heat. The bed was a beautiful thing, we had done five days in Belgium prior to the cruise with okay beds but the one on the ship was probably the most comfortable bed and bedding I've ever slept in. Being so relatively small, it was a short trip to the lounge and the dining room. The cleaning staff was always friendly and very efficient.
