This sailing was one of Viking's first after Covid restrictions were being lifted. The accommodations on board, including a well-appointed room, and excellent dining and meal preparation were terrific. But most importantly, the crew, without exception, were wonderful. They were always helpful, without being intrusive. They were upbeat and focused on making our voyage the best it could be. Our shore excursions were informative because the guides (including students in the university towns) were professional and knowledgeable and were always eager to answer our many questions. In addition, on several days the tour director would provide expert commentary as we cruised along portions of the various rivers on the trip. This was our first experience cruising, and we feel quite fortunate that we traveled with Viking. The company clearly sets high standards for its vessels and staff, and takes pride in offering excellent service. I should also note that Viking was sensitive to Covid matters, requiring daily tests of all passengers and having all staff masked. Passengers were asked to wear masks in public areas on board (not in the restaurant, however), but the requirements were not onerous nor were the staff overbearing in their enforcement. From the beginning to the end of our trip, the Viking staff were courteous, enthusiastic and most helpful.
