This was our 4th cruise on the Edge in the past 9 months, The first three we had excellent service at all areas on the ship. However, this cruise sailed at over 2000 guests (the others were 850-1200) and you certainly felt the difference. The wait for a drink, and many times even to get a seat in the atrium, was not acceptable. I know they have fixed the issue on the Beyond--but it certainly doesn't help those of us that suffer through the design on the Edge and Apex. What really made matters worse on the ship was the fact that the team of COVID testers, brought on the ship to test crew and passengers, sat at the bar drinking all night. So when 4-6 of them sat at the bar, which only has about 12 seats, it certainly limits the ability for the other 2000 guest to get a drink--Not an optimal situation. Cleanliness of the ship was still good, but certainly not like Aug, December last year. I think they were way understaffed for the amount of guests on board. The food continues to be fantastic at all venues. The pool area was very full with the 2000 guests on this sailing. And of course the chairs were held by many for hours until they finally showed up. The crew did a nice job of keeping an eye on this on the December back to back cruise we took--but did not do anything about it on this sailing. We are going back to the Solstice class ships for the remainder of 2022, which provide more options for getting a drink and sit with friends before and after dinner. For 2023 we've shifted all Edge and Apex bookings to the Beyond.. No more Edge or Apex for us.
I feel strongly that Celebrity is the premier line for larger ships due to their service, quality of food and overall experience for guests. But the design shortcomings of the atrium on the Edge and Apex ships prove to be a very expensive misstep in my opinion.
Obviously the infinite verandas have their shortcomings. We prefer the sunset verandas on the Edge and Apex due to the size of the balcony and ability to get a true balcony experience. The infinite veranda rooms have plenty of storage and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom is very nice and overall condition remains like new. We opted for the Go Green initiative that cut back on the room cleaning from twice a day to once a day. I think that initiative could work if you were able to establish a set time for the cleaning to happen. Our attendant was all over the board as far as the time he cleaned the room each day. I'd stay clear of the program unless they allow for a window of time to choose for the cleaning.
St. Maarten continues to be our favorite port for a variety of reasons. The beachfront is within walking distance, there are plenty of nice establishments to grab a drink and/or lunch while looking out at the ocean, and the shopping for jewelry and watches is outstanding.
