My husband and I chose the Grand European Tour after I cruised the Romantic Danube with my mother and sister in 2018. We were on one of the first ships to sail in 2021, after months of COVID shutdowns, and the Viking family did everything possible to make us feel safe and cared for despite continued COVID concerns. The food and wine selections were fabulous, as usual. The cabin is very well appointed and the layout is very efficient; however, it is a bit tight. We did not splurge for the more spacious explorer suite on this tour. The excursions were all enjoyable, and we had ample time to explore on our own and get in a fair amount of long walks and light exercise while the ship was docked. The real star of Viking continues to be their amazing staff. They are attentive, personable, and always go to the farthest length possible to make the guests feel cared for. Cheers to Viking for selecting some of the finest people we've ever met in the service and cruising industries. If there is one area that the longships fall a bit short on, its the shortage of exercise options on board, likely due to space constraints. There is an oval path on the top deck of the ship, which is only intended for walking and is closed for much of the tour due to low bridges. Combined with the incredible selections of food and wine, we found that the lack of exercise definitely impacted us.
