Really looked forward to this. We have cruised 20 times across lots of companies including RCL , NCL , celebrity, P&O and Princess. Virgin have reimagined lots of things, I am only picking up on a small amount. Firstly the ship interior is beautiful the cabins though minimalist in design looks great and our interior cabin was one of the best we have experienced. The outside seating is the best of any cruise line. The staff are lovely but because of every thing operating on apps spent most of their time looking at phones. When not busy they have their heads buried in them surfing the internet, so much so it is hard to catch their attention! The only thing I would say really negative is the way they have done the food. It looks like they have really picked up on the popularity of specialty restaurants and got rid of the main dining room and buffet. I am happy with that but the execution is not right yet. An example would be the Galley which replaces the buffet. Great that you don’t have to walk around with your food and you order it and get it brought to your table. On the surface you have all this food court variety Mexican, burgers , noodle bar, all day diner etc but here is where it fails: the Mexican taco bar has two choices of taco for your entire holiday, the burger bar has the option of a beef burger or a plant burger. No options for toppings no chicken burger. The noodle bar has two options of meal. The main restaurants are much the same a few more options but not many. I can’t see it interesting people for a long cruise or anything over three days. You can only visit a restaurant once. What if don’t like Korean BBQ what do you do on that night? I can see how it works for Virgin, you restrict the options you have less food to buy and you have less waste. The food looks extraordinary but nothing blew me away taste wise. I eat anything and every type of food. To sum up, all the food was instagramable but you can’t eat photos. I can see they have aimed at a particular market and that market will love it and spend all day in the gym and all evening photographing their food and will love it. But cannot see it being for your average American cruiser.
