We chose Wonder because it was the biggest cruise ship in the world. We have never been on an Oasis Class ship, so why not the latest and biggest, right? Well, this ship really doesn’t seem to offer anything more than the other Oasis ships do, except one additional bar, one new restaurant, a playground, and the “suite neighborhood.” If you’re not in a suite, it’s a pretty typical cruise experience, lots of people, mediocre food, cheesy entertainment. Very middle-of-the-Road. There are some cool bells and whistles for families, such as rock walls, a zip line, laser tag, ice skating, and slides. There is not much for adults to do during the day besides the pool, and the typical trivia games and dance lessons.

The spa is small, and there are no windows in the relaxation area or the thermal suite. There is a small sauna and steam room, and a few heated chairs which face…a blank wall. We got the thermal suite package, but didn’t use it much, because who wants to sit and face a wall?

The ship itself was beautiful, particularly in the Central Park and Boardwalk neighborhoods. It felt like you were on land in those places, and they made you really appreciate the size of the ship. The Royal Promenade area looked like a giant mall.

Cabin Review

We had a balcony room. The rooms are clean and sparsely furnished, but there is plenty of space for your things. There is a design issue with the rooms. They’re not mirror-images of each other, like in a hotel. Instead, in half of the rooms the bed is next to the balcony doors with the couch at the entrance to the room. Nice, right? Unfortunately, in the other half, the bed is right when you walk in the room, right next to the bathroom. The couch is by the windows, and there is a closet between them which blocks the view from the bed. The bathroom door is at the front right next to the bed, facing into the room, (not in the entryway hall to the side like in a hotel), so you’re sleeping next to the toilet, basically. Finally, in some of these rooms, not only is there no view from the bed, and you’re sleeping next to the toilet, but the bed faces backwards from the direction of travel. Why would they design the ship like this? Don’t get one of these rooms if you can avoid it.
