We chose this cruise in order to spend our anniversary in Nassau, where we originally got married 15 years ago. We'd taken a few Norwegian cruises in the past and found them all to be great experiences. Unfortunately, Norwegian has gone downhill since the last time we cruised with them. The only improvement noted was in the processes for embarking/disembarking; both were much more efficient. The rest of the experience was quite dismal. The deck atmosphere now caters exclusively to college-aged kids, so loud club music blares from the speakers the majority of every day. We're 60 years old, so didn't experience any serenity or relaxation while on deck. The atmosphere was no different than a Carnival cruise. Despite the ship only being half full, the bar didn't have the ingredients necessary to make more than a few basic cocktails listed on the drink menu. Paid for WiFi service but wasn't able to use my iPhone the entire time spent in the Bahamas. We were dismayed to find that bottled water was $6, and we really had to hunt around to find it. No bottled water was offered at all when leaving the ship for excursions. We finally resorted to ordering glasses of ice water from the bar and bringing them to our room to store in the minibar. We've never cruised for the free food and found that department unchanged. It'll fill you up, but nothing to write home about. We did spring for the steak restaurant one night and were presented with one overcooked filet that tasted more like pot roast. The website does recommend bringing cash to spend at ports, but I'd never encountered a problem getting cash while onboard. This time around, there was not a single working ATM on the ship. Consequently, we didn't gamble in the casino or leave the ship for 2 of the ports. The one port we did disembark for led us to a public beach (Cabbage Beach) teeming with island hawkers who overcharged for use of chaise lounges and beach umbrellas. Two male hawkers also engaged in a loud, profanity-laden shouting match that made us fear that gunfire might ensue. A 2.5 hour public beach visit ended up costing us $90.
Our cabin was kept clean, however the mattress was horribly uncomfortable. Anyone over 3 feet wide would not be able to fit inside the coffin-like shower, and the cabin size appears to have shrunk to the point of tripping over your luggage trying to get from end to end. Smaller atrium areas and bigger cabins would be a vast improvement.
