We had a bit of a problem dealing with the 48 hour COVID Test required to board ship. We followed the HAL recommendation and ordered tests online 20 days prion to cruise. On Saturday before leaving home we went online and took the test via zoom with eMeD company, who immediately sent a e-mail to each of us, which we printed out and hand carried to the ship to expedite boarding. The EMED process was a real hassle, but w understand the pandemic necessities, so we were willing to deal with it. This was our 14th HAL cruise, so we were expecting boarding to be a hassle due to long lines. Boy....were we surprised ! HAL has streamlined the boarding process...we walked straight thru never waiting at all. New to us....the room keys were already prepared and in a sealed envelope outside the cabin door in the cabin daily mailbox. No need to get our photos taken and wait at a boarding counter to create the room key. That is a great improvement.

This was our first time aboard Koningsdam. What a terrific experience. The crew was the most attentive and caring we have ever experienced aboard a HAL Ship. AND what a beautiful ship she is. We especially liked the Crows Nest. HAL went thru a disassembly of the Crows Nests about 4 years ago removing the Library and Librarians, and the majority of the comfortable sitting furniture in the Crows Nests . The "Book Club" was supposed to be a replacement for the wonderful libraries aboard ships we presumed. Well, thankfully, the Crows Nest has been returned to its original full glory, and is filled with comfortable furniture once again. We were very pleased with this change....

The Main Dining Room was amazing in cleanliness, service, and menu selection. Only thing we noticed, no more cheese plate is on desert menu....we missed that. We also ate at the Tamirind, Pinnacle, and Rudys de Mer. All were wonderful, but I will say Rudys was the highlight. Absolutely blows away the Pinnacle Grill. We ate morning breakfast for convenience at the Lido each day. And the Hot Dogs at the Dive In were awesome....Well be BACK !! Thanks HAL !

Large Oceanview Stateroom

Window Cabin Excellent, located directly across the Atrium, only 40 steps from the Hudson Room on main Deck. East access to Catholic Mass each day, 2 minutes to Lido by elevator, and about 4 minutes to Main dining room 1 deck above. Wonderful Shower with all glass door/enclosure....no tub.
