Close if not the worst cruise experience ever. We have been on many cruises, Holland American, Disney, Celebrity, Carnival, Royal Caribbean Norwegian, Viking and Brendan. This is our second Princess experience but our first during COVID. However the COVID protocols had nothing to do with our poor experience it was all related to level of service.
First let’s start with the positives. The embarkation process was fast and efficient although we were a later embarkation arriving Fort Lauderdale from Houston so the crowds were lower. The Enchanted Princess is a newer Princess vessel but has the same basic layout and restaurants as her other ships. Our cabin, B440, was nice and spacious enough. Had a nice burger and beer at the Salty Dog grill on deck 16.
Dinner time the fun begins. We and another couple had fixed a dining time for 6:20 every evening. When we got to the dining room it was a fiasco. Apparently some reservations made on the Medallion App, more on the App later, weren’t showing up and numerous people were told to come back in an hour. Luckily our reservation was there but it still took them 15 minutes to get us a table. When we sat down we asked if this would now be our regular table. The hostess told us that if we liked the table to just let her know when we left. The dinner menu seemed a bit skimpy and esoteric. Other than the every day offerings of shrimp cocktail, Caesar or house salad, onion soup, fettuccine Alfredo and a chicken, salmon or pasta main they really only had three appetizer offerings, two soup and one salad offering and three unique mains. In each category there was at least one veg offering. Now we are very adventurous diners having lived in various overseas locations but nothing on the first two evenings was very enticing so my wife had the salmon both of the first two nights. Upon leaving the restaurant we told the hostess we liked the table and would like to go there every night. She then informed us that with a 6:20 reserved time we could not chose a table so ended up at a different one every evening. This is part of the low service rating as staff never got to know us.
