Picked up from house by taxi and on arrival at Southampton had covid test in car and on result proceeded to ship. After check-in we were taken to our cabin which was great with loads of storage space. The only downside was the wardrobe which was too narrow making it difficult to access clothes especially on right side. The first few days we had to wear masks in all public places which we expected, but then we were informed that enhanced covid precautions were being introduced which meant we could only remove masks if we had food or drink in front of us. Theses enhanced precautions were enforced by staff checking that if your drink was empty you had mask on. At this point we felt we being treated like irresponsible children than adults. Most countries in Europe were reducing restrictions, including Norway, and yet Saga we're re-introducing them. We were also subjected to their farcical track and trace system in Theatre and excursions, even though we were still asked to share a table at mealtimes. 6 allowed in lift and no more than 18 inches apart in Theatre, we had to leave spare seat either side of us and yet people were allowed to sit immediately in front and behind with little social distancing. After several days we started to get regular announcements requesting guests in certain cabin numbers to return to their cabin immediately, no information was given as to why to all guests. Small
round tables started appearing outside certain cabins. After one such announcement our cabin number was called and we discovered what it was all about, we were told to isolate in our cabin for 2 days and were only allowed to leave after negative covid test. We were informed we had sat by someone who had covid on an excursion, this was an absolute joke as people were crowded next to each other getting on and off the bus and on gondolas, boats etc. On that return journey we even had a different seat as someone was sat in our seat. Because we were isolated in our room we missed a pre-booked excursion which was refunded but we still missed the experience. Towards the end of the cruise all staff suddenly appeared wearing industrial style facemasks with, yet again, no announcement as to why. The communication throughout the cruise was extremely poor, for 48 hours, whilst in Alta, the air-conditioning failed, the staff had obviously been informed as they appeared wearing coats, hats, gloves but no announcement to the passengers. The entertainment was appalling, so disappointing. This cruise did not live up to expectations and has left Saga in a very poor light.Due to rough seas we were 4 hours late disembarking and, to top it all, our taxi did not arrive and we had to wait over an hour for this to be sorted, we suggest to might put track and trace to better use and ensure taxis are en-route to port!!!! Would not recommend Saga.
