Sail Date: Jan 2022

Background Information

This was our 3rd Celebrity cruise (23rd overall). We wanted to continue working our way up the Celebrity loyalty levels (booked this cruise under a double points promotion during the pandemic), and we wanted to try the new Edge class of ship (previously sailed on a Solstice class [Equinox] and a Millennium class [Constellation]). Due to pandemic schedule changes, our port stop in San Juan was replaced with Puerto Plata and our port stop in St. Thomas was shortened.

Cabin Review

Our cabin was a (Concierge Class Infinite Veranda). We'd stayed in Concierge Class on our Equinox cruise, and we like it for the extra loyalty points.

Cabin décor & size - 243 sq ft plus 42 sq ft veranda. Chic & modern purple and gray color palette. Infinite veranda definitely makes the cabin feel larger.

Cabin location & proximity to ship features - Our cabin was on starboard side of deck 11 aft. Convenient to access all of the lower deck main dining rooms and just a couple stair climbs up to Oceanview Café and the pool on Deck 14. Cabin steward was Shewraj.

Cabin features:

- Comfortable king bed with plush linens

- Sitting area with sofa

- Desk/storage unit with lamp and a chair that slid under the pullout desk. Had three large drawers for clothes plus the minibar.

- On the desk was a box unit containing all the charging features - 1 European power outlet, 2 US power outlets, and 2 USB ports.

- Suitcases fit under the bed. Each side of the bed has a nightstand with two or three shelves. Each side has a light but only one side has a power outlet and USB port.

- Hanging closet had upper and lower sections and very limited room for full-length hanging clothes (bathrobes take up a good amount of space). There were 4 drawers inside the closet plus the safe. There was additional shelf storage in a curved closet which is in between the hanging closet and the bathroom.

- Bathroom was generously sized with a large curved glass door shower (no tub), plenty of storage along the sides of the large sink/vanity as well as under sink open shelves. Power outlet in the bathroom for the provided hair dryer which was nice. Definitely one of the best bathrooms we've had on a cruise.

- No hooks on any walls outside the bath.

- Interactive large flat screen TV but TV offers only pay movies & very limited selection of live channels.

- Concierge Class amenities include: bottle of wine, selection of three pillow types, daily afternoon canapes (choice of shrimp cocktail which we picked, cheese/crackers, fruit plate, and there was a 4th option that I don't recall), small and golf umbrellas, and binoculars.

Port Reviews

First time visit to Dominican Republic.

Walked to Fort San Felipe. $2 admission includes audio tour.

Had lunch at Skina in downtown Puerto Plata.

Did a little shopping in the new Taino Bay port area.

Given uncertainty with Covid, we didn't know what we were going to be able to do so we didn't make any advance plans.

Would probably opt for a coffee-related excursion next time we are in this port.

St. Thomas

Took taxi over to Havensight dock for lunch at Navy Beach.

Walked along waterfront to downtown Charlotte Amalie and did a little shopping.

Took taxi back to Crown Bay.

Given uncertainty with Covid, we didn't know what we were going to be able to do so we didn't make any advance plans.

St. Kitts (Port Zante)

First time visit to St. Kitts.

Walked around downtown Basseterre in the morning.

Did 4 hour Celebrity Excursion Caribbean Scenic Rail & Sail $158.99pp - Very good tour. Felt like I got a full view of the island - coast and countryside. Catamaran was relaxing. Staff gave nice narration as we cruised along the coast. Train is narrow gauge and quite rollicking - if you have motion sickness tendencies this would not be recommended.
