I've cruised on Carnival twice and this was my first cruise on RCCL. It was also my first solo cruise. I have always wanted to sail on an Oasis-class ship and have wanted to try Royal. I was blown away by the ship and the experience. I made a post on the message board (https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2831575-random-thoughts-from-a-first-time-solo-and-first-time-rccl-cruiser/) which goes into a lot of detail on random stuff, but here are the highlights.
The ship itself was immaculate, and does not show it's age at all. I had an oceanview balcony and the room was fantastic. Food was pretty decent overall, on par or a step above college campus food in most of the grab and go places, and about on part with a meal at Applebees or Outback Steakhouse in the main dining room. The activities on board were a lot of fun, and there is definitely something for everyone. I highly recommend the escape room on Oasis. It is so well done. The crew were all friendly and provided excellent service. The deluxe drink package was nice to have, but I'm on the fence if I would get it again.
Our ship was probably around 40% capacity, which was amazing. We were also the only ship at Coco Cay for that day. This added a lot to the experience, and I could see how things might be worse given a full ship. If you are on the fence about booking now, I'd say go for it before the crowds come back!
Loved the cabin, the spacious balcony was nice and gave a slightly wider field of view as is sticks out a bit from the edge of the ship. The couch and coffee table area was great, and the bathroom was nice with the glass shower being particularly appreciated. The location between both elevators was ideal.
Didn't do much here besides get off and walk around.
For some cheap wifi, head to Carls Jr and buy a drink. The code will be on your receipt. Fast enough to FaceTime and the restaurant was empty.
Did the ATV tour through Cozumel Adventure Tours. Was disappointed to find out my guide works for tips only. But it was a fun tour and we rode down the beach to a small Mayan ruin and then stopped at a tequila place.
Rented a car and hired a guide to ride shotgun. Highly recommend Marcus Brooks from BIPTGA. Circled the island and took in the views. Fun day.
Absolutely blown away by this island. So much fun. If you are looking for a natural and quiet beach day you might be disappointed, but I loved the resort/amusement park feel. The water park was extremely well done, and the slides are an absolute blast. Definitely make the trek to South Beach and head out to the floating bar. So cool!
