We chose this cruise for convenience. Direct flights from Vancouver, British Columbia, been to all the ports so not worried if ship was denied docking, familiar with Holland America historical “no touch” buffet. It ticked our boxes including vaccination requirements. We enjoyed our cruise but there is definitely a difference in what a British Columbian thinks are safe Covid protocols and what was is effect on board and what was practiced by many cruise guests. Masks were not consistently worn, social distancing was non existent, no one was ensuring hands were being sanitized, hard surfaces were not sanitized between use. We were surprised and a little dismayed. But, upon reflection, what we witnessed was a different Covid culture than our experience over the past couple of years. We just had to manage our own experience and health and ignore the rest.
The meals in the dining room were good for the most part but service was impacted by lack of staff. It did not seem that there were enough servers and assistant servers. No one to serve wine. The servers were actually running during service. It started out that the menues were on the “App” well that lasted about 3 days, not everyone has a smart phone.
Had lunch and dinner at Pinnacle grill. Excellent.
