Well after Covid had spread across the world, but before things got shut down, we had planned a cruise on the Emerald Princess through the Panama Canal. A couple of days before the cruise began on 2/29/20 things were getting so scary Covidwise that my friend decided that she would not take the chance of getting the disease and chose not to go. The rest of us went anyway. By the time we got to Panama City the government had a long debate, but after several hours delay, they finally let those who wished to do so enter the city. However, two days later when were were supposed to dock at Cartagena, the Columbian government would not allow us to even come to their port, and that day Princess gave us until March 15th to get to Fort Lauderdale. They also said that due to the Covid problems, anyone who had canceled because of fear of the pandemic before the cruise would get credit for a cruise within any time within two years. This was when we thought the pandemic would be over in a month or six weeks. Remember it was suppose to disappear by Easter, as there was no problem in the US and we really didn't need to worry about it. Alas, that turned out to be BS.

Still, after much "discussion" with Princess, in which we constantly referred to their statement that cruises canceled within a week of the cruise, because of Covid, would get credit. They (Princess) FINALLY agreed to give my friend credit for the amount she had paid for her cruise and that credit would be good until the end of 2021. So, we booked the Mexican Riviera/Sea of Cortez cruise for 12/29/2021.

To be honest, we were really looking forward to getting back on a ship. If only we had know when we booked what kind of stress getting to and from the cruise was going to be. Though much improved from when Covid shut things down, as everyone knows, its presence was still a major factor in cruising. We filled out all out all the Medallion forms online, got our shots and booster and made appointments to get the required Covid test two day before the cruise. Our plane was supposed to leave Seattle at 9:10 which would get us into LAX in plenty of time to catch our Princess bus to the boat. On the way home, we would take the bus from the ship to LAX, get on our plane a little afternoon and be back in Seattle around 3:00PM
