Sail Date: Dec 2021

I am a very seasoned cruiser with 94 cruises behind me. We booked this cruise five days before sailing as we were supposed to be on the Crystal Debussy that was cancelled because of the Netherlands closing down. So not wanting to stay home for another holiday season we went on the Grandiosa.

We boarded in Marseille which is not a very accommodating port for moving your luggage. There are no porters to assist with your luggage and for us being in our golden years found it quite difficult getting our luggage to the terminal. Once there the MSC representatives checked our required documents (by the way there was absolutely NO SOCIAL DISTANCING) in this area at all. Our luggage was finally taken from us and we were directed to another area where we waited in numbered groups for our antigen test. Still packed in like sardines. We were finally tested in private area the again waited in fairly large groups for our results. After the results were in the entire group of at least 100 to 200 people were aloud to secure our boarding documents and were escorted to the gang way.

When finally on board my wife and I went directly to our cabin to drop off our carry ons and settle in a bit. WOW what a surprise. This balcony cabin was the smallest I have ever seen in my entire days of cruising. The balcony was a joke, first you had to all but Slide Over the bed to open the balcony door plus two people could not sit out there with any degree of comfort. The supposedly queen bed was two inches short of a double bed. Bad start.

Cabin Review

Horrible…tiny. Bed small. Not queen as stated smaller than a double bed. This cabin not comfortable for two people. I wouldn’t even recommend it for a single. You can’t even sit on the balcony in comfort

Port Reviews

Rome (Civitavecchia)

I love Rome. Having been there many times but it was a new experience for my wife. But what they offered as a tour off the ship was too difficult for us to navigate.

We couldn’t go on our own as the ship would not permit it because of Covid. But I noticed people on the tour breaking away and going to shops that were not permitted.

No control by the tour guide.
