I admit I am not an avid cruiser, but I have been on several cruises before. However, this is my first Carnival cruise. In the past, I have cruised Disney and Royal Caribbean. I chose this Carnival for this trip because it fit the time frame we had to take our grandchildren on a cruise. I didn't expect Carnival to compare with Disney or RC. HOWEVER, we had a GREAT experience on the Carnival Sunrise. Actually, we had a wonderful experience overall. Leading up to the cruise, Carnival communicated frequently and well. This was a vaccine required cruise--which I was thankful for. Check-in in Miami was the easiest and fastest I have ever experienced--and this included checking COVID vaccination records and the 72-hour PCR COVID test. The Carnival employees were well prepared for the additional red tape. I wish I had the name of the woman who checked us in--it was only her third day and she was flawless. The ship staff took major precautions to prevent the spread of COVID. All employees were double masked. Hand sanitizer was available throughout the ship and offered by staff at numerous entry ways throughout the ship. The ship was not at full capacity (I heard it was 65%) and measures were taken to remind passengers to social distance. Even with all the extra duties, the ship staff was wonderful! Employees thanked us repeatedly for sailing. Everyone went out of their way to make sure every need was met very quickly. Our room steward was amazing! We had "anytime dining" and had no wait ever. The food was delicious, and the service was EXCELLENT. The entertainment was good and plentiful, the atmosphere fun, and the New Year's Eve bash was a blast. The only "hiccup" in the entire trip was the wait at ports of call. This was not the fault of Carnival. I have not been on a cruise since COVID hit and I really hope ships can continue to sail. Will I sail with Carnival again? Absolutely!

Cabin Review

Premium Balcony

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. We were on Lido Deck 9. We were near the pools and food options. The room was small but had ample storage space. The beds were comfortable, and my granddaughters enjoyed the bunks. The balcony was ample sized. This cabin was super quiet! We were never disturbed by outside noise. I wish I could remember our room steward's name. He was amazing! We were in and out of our room all during the day, but somehow he found time to get in our room and leave it in perfect order with replenished supplies.

Port Reviews

Bimini

Probably the most beautiful beach and water I have ever seen! We enjoyed the golf cart taxi ride to the beach. Our driver gave us a quick island tour. The reason for the rating is there weren't many excursion options or food options. I'm really not interested in visiting another straw market.

We took an excursion to The Sapona to snorkel. The Sapona itself is interesting, but the currents at the time we were there were almost frightening. It was impossible to snorkel...it took all our energy just to keep from being swept away. I read other reviews and others had a remarkable experience. I recommend you check the currents before you schedule this excursion.

Ocho Rios

We were delayed in disembarkment, so the only thing we were able to see or do while at port was go to our scheduled excursion at Mystic Mountain. We took were able to ride a chairlift and zipline through the rain forest. It was beautiful, great fun, and exhilarating.
