The ship is beautiful, the entertainment staff is GREAT (Shoutout the happenings crew), and bravo to making a seamless and efficient testing/embarkation process. However, those in no way outweigh the disappointment of my experience. On the Rock & GunBae are great - and this truly is a cruise for the Gluten-Free traveler out there.
Virgin says that their audience is the 'young at heart' - not TRUE. Their audience is travel agents. This became even more frustrating as we began to meet people, and realized that 80% of the sailors are travel agents who have paid NOTHING for this trip - who by the way - could care less about mingling and communicating with others on board - all they care about is what they're getting comped on board. DO NOT book through Virgin - what a waste - if you want to cruise this ship/line make sure you book through an agent - because they are wining and dining them - and if you have an agent to contact when things go wrong, you might ACTUALLY get a response.
After 9 pm the ship is SLEEPY and half of the amenities shut down. Part of their schtick is that each bar/dining area is its 'own' experience - but the bartenders/waitstaff at most of the places don't know the most basic of drinks. We wanted an Irish Coffee and we're directed to the coffee bar near the Red Room - when we ordered an Irish coffee - the bartender "what is that, how do you want it" and my sister said " coffee & baileys with a shot a Jameson" - and the bartender handed her a glass with Baileys and Jameson over Ice. WHAT? and it didn't end there - at several different bars, I would order a spicy margarita - and more than once the response was "what makes it spicy? how do you make a spicy margarita?"
Don't get off the ship, not worth all the excess money you'll be charged.
The Virigin Beach Club is actually really nice. I recommend leaving the ship for a day at the beach club.
