Sailing Viking’s Rhine Getaway on the Viking Kara is like traveling through a dream montage full of gothic cathedrals, castles and sweeping countryside vistas. This was a “last minute” travel decision to make up for lost travel time in 2020. I really didn’t think much of it, but I am soooooo happy I made this choice!
The Ship
One of Viking’s longships, the Kara’s understated elegance and comfort makes for a lovely vacation. At first glance, the Scandinavian decor looks simple and un-fussy - which thankfully it is. But a closer look at the details reveals an attention to design detail that you won’t find in many other cruise lines. Everything is purposeful and designed with the comfort of the passenger in mind. Nothing is “too much”. As Viking’s Chairman, Tor Hagen, would say: Simplicity is the highest form of luxury. And I love Kara’s clean lines, Scandinavian aesthetic and passenger-focused design. There is no “ego” in Viking’s design - every design decision is made with the guests in mind.
The veranda cabins, although tiny, have all the space you need. They are very well designed spaces. I miss my cabin! It was so lovely and beautiful.
